In less than a decade a plethora of new local-minded “soft brands” have popped up on the hospitality industry landscape. Many have been launched as soft brands by the larger worldwide hotel chains including Hilton, Hyatt and Marriott. At the same time, the profile of investors acquiring hotels and resorts is also changing. As private equity firms and REITs have scaled back on hotel investments, high-net-worth investors and family offices have entered the lodging sector with a voracious appetite, seeking yield over longer investment hold periods. Our panel will examine the introduction of new soft hotel brands while also delving into the changing profile of investors in the lodging space.
